New Designs and Dot Coms

New Designs and Dot Coms

So what do you guys think? Digging the new design? I hope you are, considering I spent days hunched over my computer screen working on this bad boy. Seriously, my fingers will never be the same...

There are a few things that I'll be tweeking throughout the week, but overall I'm pretty happy with the outcome, especially since it's my first. Hopefully my designs will only improve from here. Not that I'm planning on starting a business. I just think it's a cool thing to know how to do. Plus it can save you a few dollars, and as we all know, I'm all about saving some money.

Now that this part is finished, I'm considering getting rid of my blogspot address and getting a dot com. Really I've been going back and forth with this for about 4 months, but I hate to have to basically start over again. I've worked really hard to get a relatively low Alexa score, and have been actively working on getting a PR 2.

So for those of you who have nixed the blogspot part of your address, what do you think? Is it worth it? I have so many questions and concerns. I've heard that you'll lose all of your comments. That your page views will take a hit. I seriously hate that idea, but I feel like it's now or never. Please let me know what your experience was like. I'm in MAJOR need of some advice.

Thanks guys,
 XOXO Reese

  1. I love the new design!! I did my dot com through GoDaddy. I didn't notice any page hits or deletion of comments. Everything stayed the same. Maybe it's because my blog is still powered through Blogger...I am not tech savvy at all so I'm not really sure but my experience was great! Good Luck to you, can't wait to see the rest of the changes!

    1. Thanks Tia! I've know quite a few people that host on GoDaddy. So far I've heard only good things. I'm assuming I'll definitely lose all my page views though since I'll have a new url? Or is there some way to salvage that? Do you remember if your old address redirected to your new url?

lol sorry for the second degree, but I'm super nervous.

      Thanks again!

  2. I love it!! awesome colors and chevron rocks. great job.
I have been considering a dot com too, just so people can remember my url easier. but I'd have my blogspot address redirect and wouldn't change the host or anything, just have the url as a cover, so to speak. I think that would work, but who knows.

    1. Thanks Dara! I've heard good things about GoDaddy, but I definitely am thinking about just sticking with blogger as my host. However, I've read a few things about blogger that scare me. A drop in page views, lost comments, broken links, ect.

I'm hoping someone who has already done the switch and stayed with blogger will swing by today and clear up my hesitation. I will definitely let you know what I find out. Maybe we can do the switch together!

  4. Hey! First of all...LOVE the new look! Simple and adorable! Second, I like having my own url...it's easier for people to remember and good for 'branding' purposes should you go that way in the future. I have my url through blogger and have had no issues with comments. I do use Disqus though and you can import blogger comments and when you reply to commenters they get the message in their email, which is nice. How'd you do this great work with blogger???
