Hold The Spam Please

Hold The Spam Please

Hello beautiful people!

Apparently within the past few months my blog has officially become popular enough to attract spammers. At first I was a bit touched. I felt as if people we're starting to take notice. Unfortunately, it's the wrong kind of people, or to be more specific, the wrong kind of computers that are taking notice.

Because I have basically zero experience with handling spammers, I'm wondering if any of you kind folks out there in the blogosphere have any advice for a girl? Especially advice that doesn't include turning back on my captcha setting. I have it turned off for the express purpose of encourage you wonderful people to leave me feedback and comments. After all, what's more annoying than having taken the time to write out a thoughtful comment, and then having to spend 30 minutes trying to decipher whether or not that's an s or a 5?

Anyhow, if you guys do have any tips or advice on how to handle those annoying little buggers, drop me a line or two.
Thanks a mil!
XOXO Reese

  1. If you hear of any tricks of the trade, please let us know! I, too, have recently been inundated by spam. I turned word verification back on this week. I'm going to turn it back off this weekend and see what happens. I hope that is enough time for them to get lost. :)

    1. I wound up going in and setting it so that no anonymous commenters can comment. Which I hate to do, but I was literally at the point where I would publish a post, and within five minutes, I would already have at least one spammer clogging up my comment section. ANNOYING!

  2. I constantly get spammed on my weight loss wednesdays posts. I have curbed it down significantly by turning comment moderation on. That means comments only get posted when I publish them. There's no captcha. That's the trick for me and I bet it'd work for you too. :) Esther Norine Designs

  3. At first I thought you were gonna hate on spam and I was gonna be sad. I grew up on that stuff being poor (although now its like crazy expensive).

    I don't get a lot of spam so I can't really offer any advice - sorry! :(

    1. Spam is a bit on the expensive side these days. Especially in Harris Teeter.

My advice for when you do start getting spammed (and trust me you will ;) set up your comments so that you can't receive any comments from anonymous people. It will save you hours of shifting though comments about new weight-loss pills, ect.

      Good luck!

  5. I don't know what the heck has been going on lately with the spam. I did notice that all of my spam comments have been on the same post, so I changed that post to no longer accept comments. I'm hoping that works.

  7. At least the spammers are really affirming... if only they actually knew me... then those comments would be great! I haven't done anything about it... I just delete tons of them every day... kind of a pain... but since I'm old... and I dislike trying to figure out what those letters and numbers are... i hate to do that to everyone else!

    1. lol I agree spammers are really affirming! Within minutes of me publishing a post I can guarantee at least one comment. That comment will probably be something about some new weight loss pills or a free SEO webinar, ect.

I'm not sure how you feel about changing your settings so that no anonymous commentors can comment, but that's what I did and it is such a relief!
