Puppy Love

Puppy Love

I hold a special place in my heart for animals. Especially dogs. I admire their grace, beauty and friendly nature (for the most part). I also grew up with dogs so I suppose that's to be expected.

Since Jasmine is getting older, I decided to begin the hunt early for the most lovable dogs so that my little girl will have her own furry play pal for the years to come.

Check out these cute potential furry editions to our little family.

And of course, here's the family pet that James has in mind for us...

*Sigh* I've decided to just go with it. For now...

Anyhow, are you a dog owner? If so, what kind of dog do you own? Do you have any suggestions for  a new furry addition to our family?

  1. I have six pets. Four dogs and two cats. Their all rescues.

    I have a beagle/plott hound mix, a beagle/basset mix, a beagle, and a pintzu (which is a min pin/shih tzu mix.

Please please please consider adoption. There are dogs of all ages and breeds (and including pedigreed dogs) ins shelters and rescue across the country.

If you do buy from a breeder - insist on a home visit (to see how and where dogs are kept). Do not buy from breeders who keep their dogs in elevated cages. Insist to see current and past vet records. Also, a reputable breeder will insist you sign a spay/neuter contract unless you plan to show the dog.

Also, any breed of dog can be a family pet but there are of course some that are better suited to the job: labs, beagles, and the like.

Also, I wouldn't exclude all older dogs. Many breeds can live to be 10 to 20 years old. Plus... getting to skip the potty training and chewing stage is a bonus right?! :)

Ultimately, you have to pick the breed and dog that is best for your family but I'm here to lend a hand if you one. I've networked with 100's of shelters and rescues across the country since being involved in animal rescue!

    1. That's awesome! It sounds like you have you're own little furry family. Every dog I've ever owned was adopted from a shelter. Even my cat Maxie was a shelter rescue. I mean how can you go in there and not leave with a dog or two? Especially knowing what may happen to them if no one steps in.

I guess I've never considered getting an older dog. I kind of want Jasmine to have many many years ahead of her with her furry pal, but I suppose skipping the potty training makes the idea appealing ;)

I definitely will keep you in mind when we begin our hunt. Thanks girl!

    1. LOL, it's not wrong. Trust me, I want them all too. In fact, I confess, I may be a follower of Boo's personal facebook page, and may own one or two of the stuffed dogs...and possibly a I <3 Boo shirt that I got at Forever 21 ;)

  3. I am the absolute worst person to ask. We have 7 animals. 4 cats and 3 dogs. We have a lab mix, an English Shepard mix and a puppy that is a Golden Retriever / German Shepard mix. The first two were rescues, the puppy I just couldn't resist. I would get a playmate for him but I think my husband might have a fit. So for now, he has to make do with his best buddy the cat and the play dates he has on his morning runs with the other dogs that are out. Our other two dogs are older and don't have a lot of patience for his antics.

    1. I guess that makes you a crazy cat/dog lady? lol James "claims" to be allergic to cats. So when we got together I had to leave my kitten with my parents :( It was a tough choice ;) lol but seriously, I love that you guys love animals so much. It's such a great experience for a kid to have his/her own pet. It makes them feel like they have a best friend around at all times. I'm sure the kiddos love their furry friends!

  4. I had a few cats when I was little and then had a full-bred german shepherd and a german shepherd/lab mix. Unfortunately, they have all passed. While I don't have any pets now because I couldn't handle any additions in my apartment right now, I would love the last dog that you have up there. I LOVE big dogs. So, when we finally move into our dream house, we'll either get the mastiff like you have pictured above, a golden retriever, or a Samoyed (my first choice).

  5. We have a border collie. She is a great dog and is wonderful with my kids. However, we live out in the country and she has lot of room to run. If that's not an option for you then a border collie might not be the right choice. Growing up we had collies and German Shepherds - both were great. The first dog my hubby and I had we got from the pound and she turned out to be a shepherd/chow mix. I would definitely NOT recommend a chow around kids - they can be very temperamental.
