Philips Hue White Ambiance Light Review and Giveaway

Philips Hue White Ambiance Light Review and Giveaway

It's week one of my Smart Moms, Smart Homes series, and I'm kicking things off with one of my favorite products so far, the Philips Hue White Ambiance Smart Lights. Be sure to check out my review on YouTube for more information about these super smart lights. This post is sponsored by Philips Lighting, however all thoughts and opinions belong solely to me.

Question of the Day: How do you make a dumb home smart?
Answer: By installing Philips Hue White Ambiance Lights

By now we all know that lighting has the ability to affect our wallet, moods, productivity and sometimes, even our sleeping patterns. In a sense, investing in smart lighting is not only economical, but it can make your life easier in a number of different ways.

A month ago, I had the opportunity to try out some smart lights for the first time. And now, I'm pretty much addicted. With more than 50,000 shades of white, Philips Hue White Ambiance lights can match your personal preference. However, if you'd prefer something a bit less custom, the Philips Hue App  and the Philips Hue wireless dimmer switch come loaded with 4 preset options to choose from.

I was initially a bit hesitant about setting these lights up myself, figuring it would be complicated, but I was presently surprised.  The set-up process took less than 5 minutes, and most of that was spent reading to make sure that I followed the instructions correctly.

If you have a set of Hue lights of your own, or intend to get a set, here's how to get started:

First, screw your lights into your lamp or ceiling light and turn them on. Next, plug your bridge into the back of your router and press the button on the bridge to activate. Finally, download and open your Philips Hue app and connect to your bridge and enjoy!

Pretty simple right?

Since the majority of our time is spent in the living room, we have two Hue White Ambiance lights there, one on a side table for reading, and one on the hallway bookshelf. Each of these lights can be controlled separately, or as one unit.

Once everyone goes to bed for the night, they serve as nightlight, giving off just enough glow to light the room enough to see. Or, if we need to crank up the brightness, they can be brightened enough for you to study, or read without straining your eyes.

Our lights synced with our Amazon Echo, so we no longer have to rely on using a tablet or smart device to control the app, we can simply say "Alexa living room on," to activate and control our lights. This is an incredibly useful feature when you're returning home from the grocery store and don't have a free hand to turn on the lights.

These Hue lights are a simple, affordable first-step towards home automation. They're easy to control, easy to set up, and they won't break the bank.

The Philips Hue White Ambiance starter kit includes two Philips Hue White Ambiance bulbs, a Hue bridge, and a wireless dimming switch. The starter kit cost $129.99, which is well worth the price when you consider what you are getting. The starter kit can be purchased at Amazon, Apple Stores, Bed Bath and Beyond, Best Buy, Home Depot, MeetHue.com, Sams Club, Walmart and other retailers.

Since they believe that sharing is caring, the wonderful team at Philips Lighting is giving one of my lucky readers the opportunity to win a Philips Hue White Ambiance starter kit of their own. To enter into this giveaway, complete the objectives in the Rafflecopter Widget below. This contest is only open to U.S. Residents 18+ years of age. Please note, winner will be verified and given 72 hours to respond to the congratulatory email before another winner is selected.

  4. I'm always amazed at how far technology has come. Like it's kind of mind blowing if you just sit and think about how things like this work and try to figure out how it was made possible. I definitely want to get some of these for when we move. It'll be great to have hands-free lighting and to have lighting in the kids' rooms that can serve as both a regular lamp and a nightlight at bed time.

  6. I the color ones in all the bedrooms, living room, dinning room, hallway, and kitchen. I have the regular white ones in my basement and entryway. I can say that it is great when you wake up the same time everyday that they slowly come one because I have sensitive eyes I hate bright light first thing in the morning. These make it easy to get up and helps when the door bell rings that they turn on so I am safe when I answer the door and not tripping over things. Can not wait to have them for outside.
