Question of the Day: How do you make a dumb home smart?
Answer: By installing Philips Hue White Ambiance Lights
By now we all know that lighting has the ability to affect our wallet, moods, productivity and sometimes, even our sleeping patterns. In a sense, investing in smart lighting is not only economical, but it can make your life easier in a number of different ways.
A month ago, I had the opportunity to try out some smart lights for the first time. And now, I'm pretty much addicted. With more than 50,000 shades of white, Philips Hue White Ambiance lights can match your personal preference. However, if you'd prefer something a bit less custom, the Philips Hue App and the Philips Hue wireless dimmer switch come loaded with 4 preset options to choose from.
I was initially a bit hesitant about setting these lights up myself, figuring it would be complicated, but I was presently surprised. The set-up process took less than 5 minutes, and most of that was spent reading to make sure that I followed the instructions correctly.
If you have a set of Hue lights of your own, or intend to get a set, here's how to get started:
First, screw your lights into your lamp or ceiling light and turn them on. Next, plug your bridge into the back of your router and press the button on the bridge to activate. Finally, download and open your Philips Hue app and connect to your bridge and enjoy!
Pretty simple right?
Since the majority of our time is spent in the living room, we have two Hue White Ambiance lights there, one on a side table for reading, and one on the hallway bookshelf. Each of these lights can be controlled separately, or as one unit.
Once everyone goes to bed for the night, they serve as nightlight, giving off just enough glow to light the room enough to see. Or, if we need to crank up the brightness, they can be brightened enough for you to study, or read without straining your eyes.
Our lights synced with our Amazon Echo, so we no longer have to rely on using a tablet or smart device to control the app, we can simply say "Alexa living room on," to activate and control our lights. This is an incredibly useful feature when you're returning home from the grocery store and don't have a free hand to turn on the lights.
These Hue lights are a simple, affordable first-step towards home automation. They're easy to control, easy to set up, and they won't break the bank.
The Philips Hue White Ambiance starter kit includes two Philips Hue White Ambiance bulbs, a Hue bridge, and a wireless dimming switch. The starter kit cost $129.99, which is well worth the price when you consider what you are getting. The starter kit can be purchased at Amazon, Apple Stores, Bed Bath and Beyond, Best Buy, Home Depot, MeetHue.com, Sams Club, Walmart and other retailers.
